Elmsdale Branch 048
850 Hwy 2, Elmsdale, NS B2S 1M1
(902) 883-8922
Branch Charter March 31, 1934
During the year 1948, the branch purchased and erected a barracks from the army facilities in Debert , Novascotia on a parcel of land purchased in elmsdale. At the time the legion building was the largest community hall for scouts, guides, and charitable organizations; and up to 1960, the building was used daily to house the Elementary School for grades 2 to 5. In 1972, a monument / cenotaph was erected by the citizens of Elmsdale and vicinity in memory of those from the community lost in WWI. In 1943, the lands and monument were transfered, by deed, from public property to the Royal Canadian Branch 48, Elmsdale NS. In 1965, the Elmsdale Branch purchased the lands behind the Legion, and with the support of the community, developed and maintained two ball diamonds and two soccer fields for use by minor and adult sports at no charge.
On March 31,2003, Elmsdale Branch suffered a total disaster from flood waters to the downstairs are which housed our daily bar operations, games room, lounge and video lottery terminal area. The Branch was able to move its operations to the upper level.
They shall grow not old as we that are left grow old; age shall not weary them nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning, We will remember them.
